Galadhar [ also spelled as Gala Dhar ] is a high altitude group of Meadows and rolling hills in the kastigarh tehsil of Doda district, at roughly 10,000 ft above the sea level.
The Meadows are generally inhabited by nomadic Muslims , though some of them are Hindus also who traditionally moves between high altitude Meadows in the summer and lower altitude areas in the winter to find grazing land for their animals.

The journey to this marvelous and hidden gem takes you through many breathtaking villages, gorges, cataracts and splendid pine and deodar trees. The roads are winding sometimes rough, but they carry a rhythm of tranquility. As one approaches towards the Meadow, the hustling life of the cities begins to fade and what left is a tranquility that waits you long before the Galadhar do.
Though not fully motorable yet, it remains an emerging route for locals and trekkers. Galadhar can be reached through multiple routes, each offering its own charm. Among all, the one from kastigarh_ziyani_dhandal remains the favourite of trekkers. Galadhar is also accessible from Rajgarh side of Ramban district. Also , one can reach Rajgarh within hours from kastigarh by using Galadhar pass.
At the top of the triangular hill lies the region's famous temple of Mahamaya chound Mata. The shrine is believed to have been in existence since Mahabharata times. Though original structure of the temple doesn't exist, the new one provides an appealing view. The temple has been destroyed several times by anti_indian forces with the aim of disturbing peace in the region. The recent incident of blazing took place back in 2013_014.
Shri chound Mata chari Yatra is an annual event that takes place every year in the month of June. As the Yatra makes its way towards Galadhar, the atmosphere reverberates with devotional chants, traditional rituals and a strong sense of spiritual unity. Apart from Hindus, people belonging to other communities also participates in the auspicious Yatra, thereby , showcasing a strong inter_Community bond and cultural unity. The Yatra holds immense spiritual and cultural significance in the region.
Known for its cool and refreshing climate, especially during the hot summer months in the plains. The crisp, clean air is a welcome change from the smog and humidity of urban areas. Activities like leisurely walks, meditation, and simply enjoying the scenery can be incredibly rejuvenating. It offers a wide range of adventure activities like trekking, camping, rock climbing.
I have visited Galadhar several times.Each visit has not only provided a retreat into nature but also offered Wordsworthian moments of reflection, shaping my outlook on life. The beauty of these places is more than just visual; they offer a soothing escape from the rush of the plains and cities, and a time to reconnect with the self.
I always loved hill stations and felt super energized whenever got a chance to visit Galadhar. For me it hold all the more importance. Perhaps my first trip to hill station was of Galadhar. I must say, it possesses an unbeatable charm. Since it makes one feel so close to nature. Also it brings new level of freshness and energy. So, in quest of satisfying our likeness of hill stations we must visit Galadhar
